Radio frequency filters, or RF filters, are components used to minimize interference in wireless technology by allowing signals that meet a specific frequency to pass while suppressing unwanted frequency signals. Think of a radio and how you turn a knob to tune to different channels. As you turn the knob, you change which frequency signals the RF filter allows to pass and suppress, leaving you with only your desired frequency (aka your desired radio station) coming through.
Types of RF Filters
RF filters are designed to work in operating frequencies that range from medium to very high, making these filters extremely useful for wireless communication applications. GPS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, television receivers, and smart phones are just a few of the nearly endless applications that RF filters are used for.

Types of RF Filters
RF filters can be broken down into four main types: Low pass, High pass, Band Pass, and Band Stop.
Low Pass Filter (LPF)
A low pass filter is a filter that passes signals with a frequency lower than a certain cutoff frequency and attenuates signals with frequencies higher than the cutoff frequency. Low pass filters are used in various audio applications to filter noise. When “noise” or high frequency signals are passed through a low pass filter, the noise is removed, and a clear sound is produced.
High Pass Filter (HPF)
High pass filters are the opposite of low pass filters, allowing signals with a higher frequency to pass through, while attenuating frequencies lower than the cutoff frequency.
Band Pass Filter (BPF)
A band pass filter is a filter used to isolate or filter out certain frequencies within a particular band or range of frequencies. These filters are used in applications where high selectivity is required, such as television or radio.
Band Stop Filter (BSF)
Band stop filters, also known as band reject filters, are filters with the exact opposite functionality of band pass filters. These filters stop or attenuate frequencies that lie between its two cutoff frequencies and pass all frequency signals outside the cutoff points. These filters are used in a wide range of applications, including audio systems where they can remove the hum caused by interference.
